ELEVATIONS_01.jpg

This site is my apartment in Melbourne. A place that I am familiar with regarding the interior and its surrounding. Assembly Apartments accommodates a wide range of residents, with its one and two bedroom units. Single dwellers such as students or working people and group dwellers such as a couple or family is all able to live comfortable in this complex.

I have chosen to explore a two bedroom apartment unit as my site. An apartment unit can be limited in terms of space, offering only two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and a balcony. It can be restricting for expanding families and often does not have enough room for children to play. Spaces and function are assigned by designers, therefore they is little room for individuality.

Temporary Eternity aims to push boundaries for a growing family and child development. Using the site of an apartment unit as a challenge, the design of adaptable modules will investigate how it can inform and engage with ever-changing human conditions and needs.

proposed

The existing floor plan of a 2 bedroom apartment unit, includes permanent walls that segregates spaces. Assigning space and function in order to make use of the space and create circulation.

However, in order to test my design, I propose that most walls will be demolish. Leaving only the structure of the bathroom (that will be replaced with modules but in the same layout), and keeping the existing kitchen. The existing bathroom and kitchen is to be kept the way it is because, it is not components that can be replaced with modules and is connected to water and electrical systems.
